Wednesday, What's Up?

WHAT I'M READING

I finally finished AVALON by Mindee Arnett. It reminded me of Firefly/Serenity, more so Serenity, if you've seen the movie. I really enjoyed it, but bad things kept happening to Jeth (the main character) and I just wanted something good to happen to him once in a while! I'll probably do a vlog review about this soon.

WHAT I'M WRITING

I *just* started brainstorming the new WiP yesterday. I created a world that I'm really excited about, and I kinda have characters; I know what the relationships will be to the different characters in the WiP, but I have no backstory yet. Or plot. So yeah... still working on that. I have an inkling, but I'm not sure if I like it yet, so I guess it's just more brainstorming for now.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Pinterest! I've been pinning pictures to my WiP board (called Hanging Gardens) for a while now, and I'm so happy I finally get to start. Looking at all the atmospheric pictures is definitely helping my inspiration because it was waning a little bit before.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

Finally finished the chem praxis, so I'm just waiting for my scores. And applying to jobs. I'm getting super antsy because I just want next year to be nailed down. And I'm looking for new apartments, which is kinda dependent on where I'll be next year (and if I can afford it...) so I'm trying not to stress about it. Whatever's supposed to happen, will happen. (I just have to keep telling myself that.)

I finally saw The Fault In Our Stars! I dragged two of my guy friends along (one the bf and one the bff, because I knew the bf wouldn't cry and the bff totally would). Really enjoyed Ansel's portrayal of Gus and since I hadn't read the book in long time, it reminded me of all the themes of oblivion. I actually did a vlog about it, if anyone's interested.

Myers Briggs & Personality Types

So I've recently become obsessed with the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator. I've been trying to analyze all my friends and/or even actors if I can get a glimpse of their personalities from the interviews I watch. I even found a Harry Potter and Star Wars Myers Briggs profile that I've pinned on Pinterest for easy reference.

It's pretty amazing to me that everyone, in the world, can be broken down into just 16 types. Obviously that doesn't mean everyone is the same; I have multiple friends who are ESFPs and they are vastly different. But generally, they have very similar characteristics.

Despite being obsessed with this, I never really used it for my characters, but now that I'm thinking about it, it makes me want to go back and revise for specific types. It's a very useful tool, one that I have not been utilizing.

For those who don't know the Myers Briggs personality types, it's four categories, divided into two options each (which is why it's a total of 16). Myself, I'm an INTJ, so I am introverted (recharge by being alone), intuitive (plan ahead, utilize creative solutions, big picture person), thinking (make choices based on logic) and judging (organized and take responsibility seriously). On the flip side, you could be extraverted (recharge by being with others), sensing (live in the here and now, practical solutions, detail person), feeling (make choices based on emotion) or perceiving (disorganized, more care free, usually late), or anything in between.

WHAT I'M READING

I just started AVALON by Mindee Arnett. I really enjoyed THE NIGHTMARE AFFAIR, so when I heard she was writing a YA SF, I knew I had to read it. So far I really like it, but I haven't had a lot of spare time (haha, spare time is a myth!) so I'm not too far in to it. But it totes hooked me by the first chapter, so I know I'm going to love it.

WHAT I'M WRITING

I'm... not writing anything right now. Currently querying TDoC, and I've been studying for my chem Praxis test, so writing's been on hold. I do have two SNIs, so I'm excited to finally start up again!

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

This sounds pretty bad, but famous authors who've had multiple rejections. Being in the query trenches is hard, so knowing that there were other great authors who have gotten tons of rejections is keeping me going! And knowing it only takes ONE agent to say yes. *fingers crossed*

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

Besides studying for chem, I'm job searching. (Anyone know of any bio or chem high school teaching jobs in Philly? eh? eh?) Also trying to get back into running after a brief hiatus. Summer League for Ultimate frisbee just started, so I have games two nights this week, which is awesome. It's so nice to play and be active after studying for weeks straight.
